What is Paint the Point?

“Paint the Point” is a city-wide art initiative inviting artists, families, and local organizations to creatively transform fire hydrants across West Point. This project aims to inspire community pride, showcase local talent, and bring public art to life!

Who Can Apply?
1. Local Artists & Designers
2. Students & Youth Groups
3. Families & Community Members
4. Local Businesses & Nonprofits

How It Works

Submit your design by Friday, October 10, 2025

  1. Get selected — we’ll notify chosen artists

  2. Paint your hydrant- Artists provide own supplies

  3. Celebrate your art at the city showcase!

Selection Process

The selection panel will make their decision solely from your entry submission and will be judged based on quality of design, colors used and eye appeal.

Requirements:

  • Artists are to provide their own tarps, brushes, and other painting supplies, and of course paint. Please note: recommended paint is acrylic enamel paint suitable for metal surfaces and includes a gloss finish. Hydrant must be sanded before painting.

  • The artwork must be fun exciting and colorful, imagination and creativity strongly encouraged.

  • Design must use the entire fire hydrant (i.e. front, back and sides) without obstructing the use of the fire hydrant, only paint where the hydrant has paint.

  • Paint is the only medium allowed.

  • Artists will provide their own paint and brushes and any other materials they need to complete the project.

  • Any artwork deemed inappropriate will not be accepted by the panel.

Art on Fire Application
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see — and when it lives in the heart of a community, it becomes a shared vision.”
